Resilience is a Skill That Can Be Developed

Being resilient does not mean that pressure never affects you.

It is about developing practical strategies that help you respond to challenges, manage stress and recover when things do not go to plan. Resilience can involve recognising your own responses to pressure, maintaining perspective, adapting to change, learning from challenges and developing sustainable habits that support your wellbeing over time.

It can also mean recognising when something is outside your control and understanding when you need to seek assistance or support rather than simply pushing through.

Like communication, leadership or customer service, resilience is a skill that can be strengthened with greater awareness and practice.

Creating a Workplace That Supports Both

Supporting workplace wellbeing is not about choosing between organisational responsibility and individual resilience.

We need both

Organisations can work towards creating safer and healthier workplaces by:

  • identifying and managing psychosocial hazards;
  • ensuring managers and supervisors understand their responsibilities;
  • creating opportunities for employees to raise concerns;
  • providing appropriate support following challenging situations;
  • reviewing workplace practices that may be creating unnecessary pressure;
  • encouraging healthy and respectful workplace behaviours; and
  • providing employees with practical skills for managing everyday workplace pressure.

The objective is not to create a workplace where nobody ever experiences stress.

That is unlikely to be realistic.

The objective is to create a workplace where avoidable risks are managed, people feel supported and employees have practical skills they can draw upon when challenges arise.

Building Psychosocial Safety

Managers and supervisors have an important role in creating and maintaining a psychologically healthy and safe workplace.

Zealifi’s Psychosocial Safety in the Workplace online course helps build awareness of psychosocial hazards, workplace responsibilities and practical approaches to supporting psychological health and safety at work.

The course is particularly relevant for managers, supervisors and others with responsibility for people or workplace health and safety.

Want to strengthen psychosocial safety in your workplace?

Building Personal Resilience

While workplaces have responsibilities for managing psychosocial risks, providing employees with practical strategies to manage everyday pressure can also contribute to a healthier workplace.

Zealifi’s Resilience – Staying Strong Under Pressure online course is designed for employees across industries and workplace environments.

The course explores practical strategies for developing a resilience mindset, managing workplace pressure, responding to challenges and building sustainable habits that can support performance and wellbeing.

Help your team build skills they can use when work gets challenging.

Protecting Your People Starts Before There is a Problem

Workplace wellbeing should not only become a priority after an employee is struggling or an incident occurs or a psychosocial risk has already caused harm.

Prevention, awareness and education all have a role to play.

By creating psychologically safer working environments and giving people practical skills to manage the everyday challenges of working life, organisations can build workplaces where people feel supported, capable and better equipped to respond when things get tough.

Because protecting your people is not only about responding when something goes wrong.

It is about creating the right environment, skills and support before it does.
